Health Insurance Coverage

... More and more group health plans are including athletic therapy services as a covered benefit to their plan members.


If you have a group health benefits package through your employer or are paying into a private extended plan, it would be worth your while to check and see if you are covered and what the terms and conditions are pertaining to the use of athletic therapy services.

We hold membership and are certified with both the Ontario Athletic Therapist Association (OATA) and the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA). We will bill you directly and include our unique certification number when issuing you an invoice for purposes of claiming it under a participating plan if you have one.

For those who do not have coverage on your insurance plan for athletic therapy, we now provide services as a Registered Kinesiologist.  Many extended health care plans carry registered kinesiologists as service providers.

Jean is now a Registered Kinesiologist with the College of Kinesiology of Ontario and will be glad to use his new credentials to help you cover the costs of your treatments.

Here are some group health insurance plans that we know cover athletic therapy in their schedule of benefits as checked in April 2013:

covered for 100% of fees
up to 20 visits per condition
Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board

covered for 100% of fees
reasonable and customary frequency
Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board

covered for 100% of fees
reasonable and customary frequency
Ontario Basketball Association

Expenses charged for the services of a certified athletic sports therapist ordered or prescribed by a Physician, provided such physiotherapist or sports therapist does not ordinarily reside in the Participant’s Residence and is not an Immediate Family Member; up to fifty dollars ($50) per treatment, subject to a maximum reimbursement of five hundred dollars ($500) as the result of any one (1) Accident and one thousand dollars ($1,000) during any one (1) policy term.

Athletic therapy coverage has been added to paramedical services under the Great West Life plan.
